EPIC SAGA OF RESILIENCE AND EXILE
CATHERINE: The Voice of a Lost Empire
Narrative Biography & Limited Series 8 × 45 min
Born into a world of palaces, diamonds, and privilege, Catherine Yurievskaya is swept by history into poverty, hard labour, and exile, forcing her to reinvent herself as a singer and build a life that is finally her own.
Based on the extraordinary life of Her Serene Highness Princess Catherine Yurievskaya, the youngest and most beloved daughter of Emperor Alexander II and his morganatic wife, Princess Dolgorukova.

THE STORY
Cinderella in Reverse
Her story keeps changing genre — dramatically.
Catherine’s childhood is a fairy tale: an emperor for a father, a palace by the sea, a secret beneath a cypress. Then a bomb turns the fairy tale into a dynastic family drama, and the child who believed herself protected by love and rank is sent into exile.
From that moment on, Catherine’s real life seems to reinvent itself faster than fiction could. In Biarritz, a youthful romance begins almost as a romantic comedy and turns into operatic melodrama. Years later, a cavalry officer brings another love story — only for revolution to transform it into a survival thriller of searches, confiscated jewels, false identities, hard labour, hunger and escape.
Exile changes the rules again. The emperor’s daughter becomes an unknown singer knocking on the doors of London music halls. A love story becomes a backstage drama; loss becomes a career. Then another world war brings captivity, military service, secret operations and one final crossing of the paths Catherine and Serge thought had separated for good.
Yet inside this extraordinary succession of adventures is a real woman who never knows what genre her life will become next. Again and again, Catherine must learn new rules just as the old ones cease to apply. Birth, money, marriage, nationality and social position all prove temporary. Each time history changes the world around her, she has to decide what can still be saved — and who she is now.
By the end, palaces, jewels, husbands, country and empire are gone. What survives is her voice, her father’s small heart-shaped pebble, and the answer she somehow knew as a child:
Just Catherine.

The BOOK
CATHERINE: The Voice of a Lost Empire
Narrative Biography
Built on memoirs, contemporary press, archival research and a rare unpublished 1926 interview with Catherine herself, the book reconstructs a life that has largely remained in the shadows of Romanov history. It follows Catherine from imperial childhood through revolution, exile, poverty and the stage, always staying close to her own point of view — including the story of Alexander II and Princess Catherine Dolgorukova as she herself would have known it: simply the story of her Mama and Papa.
The documentary narrative is complemented by brief literary reconstructions of key moments, rooted in historical sources and designed to restore the textures of the world around her — its voices, places, atmosphere and small telling details. The result is both an intimate portrait of Catherine and a rediscovery of a remarkable woman whom generations of historians largely overlooked.
